What Customers Say About Plantronics MX505 Windsmart Boom Headset (Black and Gray):

The supposedly flexible ear piece just snapped on my last one and I've had it maybe four weeks. However, after replacing this headset four times in the almost the same number of months, I'm not buying this model anymore. I agree with the other reviewers that the clarity of the calls is excellent. This is not due to abuse. It's ridiculous. They stop working almost on cue. Also, the removable/replaceable microphone pieces are great in concept, but they tend to fall out in purses, cars, you name it. Plantronics - how about some improved quality control.

I use a headset all the time this one is very hard to get on and I find that the out going signal is very low. I have to take it off for people to hear me a lot of the time

The C500 for $1.50 + $3 shipping is a no brainer compared to this. I've owned several other "over-the-ear" designs with earpiece gels that are much more comfortable for long term wear and stay put.

The wire includes a volume/mute control. I was very disappointed with this product.

Also, the "under-the-ear" design and swivel earpiece aren't that comfortable or secure (the headset flops around a lot, and the earpiece hurts after 15-20 minutes). I don't know if mine is defective, but I can only hear at a reasonable level when both the phone and headset volume are set to max.

By contrast, with my Jabra C500 I keep the phone volume at 3 (out of 8). In addition, this headset it a _lot_ pricier.

I bought two for $9.

Not good for car use, where I need the freedom to look around and make sure I'm safe on the road. I'd give it another star for audio quality, as it really is awesome, but the sheer awkwardness of the design precludes getting any pleasure from the quality of the audio. I don't mind the lack of start/stop button so much, as my phone has the option to auto-answer while the headset is on. The earbud is too large for my ear, and made from hard plastic, which is only comfortable for about 3 minutes. And no matter what variation I try, the thing only stays on my head if I'm looking straight forward without turning my neck. Though I do like that there is a volume control on the headset. My other headset has no control, and is painfully loud even with my phone turned down.

I bought a Plantronics bluetooth headset Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth Headset for the car and was extremely happy with it. The MX505 has been great. I wanted to leave it in the car, though, because I knew if I took it with me when I got out, I would never remember to put it back in the car. I decided to get a wired headset to keep in my briefcase because, despite being very technically literate, I'm still leary about something emitting radio waves stuck in my ear all day. Most importantly, it's durable. It also has good sound quality and the people I call have no trouble hearing me.
